Jesus had many harsh things to say about a faith that was empty. He comdemned many of the religious people and leaders of His day for observing and emphasizing certain aspects of morality (the law) while forgetting the most important ones (love for God and others). Does this mean that Jesus came to abolish religion and establish a new spirituality that opposes organized religious institutions? In light of the popularity that the recent YouTube video, "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus" has generated for this subject matter, we're going to spend some time looking at these questions and attempt to reconcile the Catholic perspective with the challenges raised by the video.
